With continued hot, dry weather and a number of new lightning-caused fires in the region it is important to be prepared in the event of a local emergency.

A complete fire ban remains in place in the City of Fernie. This includes firepits and fireworks.

Preparing for Emergencies

In the event of an emergency, Fernie has local Emergency Social Services (ESS) volunteers to assist you. In the 72 hours immediately following an emergency, ESS provides basic needs to people forced from their homes.

The City of Fernie works closely with the Regional District of East Kootenay on Emergency Management and Preparedness. You will find helpful resources and regional fire information on their site.
