Update: Emergency Water Line Repair Completed

City Crews have repaired the burst water trunk main and restored water pressure across the City of Fernie.

You may still experience water turbidity over the next couple of days, and are again asked to run cold water until it clears.

If you continue to experience other issues with your water, please let us know by calling 250-423-6817.

Original Story, October 3: The City of Fernie is currently dealing with a burst water trunk main, below Burma Road, that requires an emergency repair.

In order to fix the issue, crews will have to to shut down a trunk main. This will result in a major decrease in water pressure for homes in neighbourhoods at higher elevations including: Ridgemont, Castle Mountain and Montane. It will also mean an increase in pressure for homes in the rest of Fernie, and West Fernie.

While the repair is taking place, residents should expect high turbidity levels in the water.Anyone experiencing turbid water is asked to run cold water until the water clears. Where possible the use of an outdoor tap is recommended.

Residents experiencing other issues with their water are asked to call the City at 250-423-6817.

The repair is expected to take several days to complete.
