RDEK Regional Park Closures
In keeping with the Provincial backcountry bans, the Regional District of East Kooteny has CLOSED Regional Parks. As of today, the following Regional Parks are closed including WEST FERNIE PARK:
- · West Fernie Park (RDEK Regional Park)
- · Wycliffe Park
- · Wycliffe Exhibition Grounds
- · Elk Valley Park
- · Tie Lake Park
- · Cherry Creek Falls Park
- · Avery Road Lake Access
- · Old Coach Trail – (Dry Gulch to Radium)
- · Aldridge Community Park
In addition marshalling areas at the Tie Lake, Wasa, and Canal Flats transfer stations are closed however, waste bins remain open to the public. At this time City of Fernie municipal parks remain open.
RDEK Evacuation Alert / Order Update
Evacuation Alert for west side of Koocanusa in the Newgate area has been upgraded to an Evacuation ORDER. This order includes:
- ·Newgate from Gold Bay south to the US border including Sunshine Houseboats, Sandy Shores and Madera Ranch Campgrounds.
Evacuation Alert issued for the area on the east side of Koocanusa in Grasmere Area.
In addition many other orders and alerts in effect.
Crown Land / Backcountry Closures
Further to BC Wildfire Service order access to the Elk River for angling and river floating between Sparwood and Elko is limited from boat launches with highway access only. Dogwood Boat Launch remains open. The RDEK has reopened the Koocanusa – Yakakaklamki Boat Launch.
