Frozen Water Line Prevention

As the weather gets colder it's time to start thinking about what you can do to prevent the water lines to your home from freezing. The City of Fernie can't prevent your lines from freezing, but there are some simple precautionary actions that you can take.

You can either install a bleeder valve in your home, or you can leave a tap running in your home.  Keeping a small, continuous flow of running water is the easiest way to prevent your water service from freezing when the line is exposed to frost.  This is especially important for residents who are out of town over the winter and are unable to monitor their waterlines.

Residents who have experienced frozen lines in the past are encouraged to be pro-active and ensure lines are properly insulated.  For more information on how you can prevent frozen water lines, and for information on what to do if you suspect a frozen water line in your home visit our water page.
