Public Notice - Waste Regulation Bylaw # 1845

Effective May 9, 2016 changes to Waste Regulation Bylaw No. 1845 requires that all residential waste for curbside collection be contained in rigid plastic or non-corrosive metal containers with a water tight cover strong enough to withstand normal handling and lifting. Maximum volume is 75L (15.5LMP. Gal); Maximum weight is 22.5 kg (50lbs) when full.

One container per residential dwelling unit is allowed.  The container must have an opening that permits emptying with minimum effort and handle(s) that enable the container to be lifted and emptied safely by one person.  Residents are encouraged to use plastic bags to line their waste containers to prevent loose garbage and debris from being blown in the wind and decreasing odors in the container that may attract wildlife.

Recycling materials (properly rinsed) are still permitted in plastic recycling bags on the curb.  Residents are encouraged to maximize your recycling to minimize your waste!

Council has permitted a grace period until Tuesday, May 31, 2016 to allow residents time to purchase waste containers conforming to the bylaw.
