Public Bear Proof Garbage Containers

PUBLIC BEAR PROOF GARBAGE CONTAINERS provided by the City. Working with Wildsafe BC, the City has placed bear proof containers at several public facilities. The bins are located at City Hall, Max Turyk Community Ctr, Fernie Aquatic Ctr, Fernie Memorial Arena and Fernie Mobile Home Park and are for HOUSEHOLD WASTE only. Users will be expected to be respectful of these facilities and not add to the problem by abusing the site and dumping garbage on or around the bins or dumping... large pieces of furniture and other inappropriate materials. 
The success of community bins is completely dependent on the users!
THANK YOU to those residents who manage their garbage responsibly! And to those who don't - a reminder that Waste Regulation Bylaw #1845 prohibits accumulation of wildlife attractants on your property. This means don't store your garbage under your deck, in your carport or unsecured in your backyard. Instead take your household waste to the Transfer Station for FREE or use one of the new public bins. Bylaw Enforcement will issue one warning followed by a ticket for infractions.
Residents can also take some responsibility for the bins in their neighborhoods by keeping an eye out and reporting abuse to Bylaw Enforcement at 250.423.6817. Remember, please manage your garbage and fruit trees responsibly! http://wildsafebcelkvalley.com/
