Trails & Parks

Located in the heart of the Canadian Rockies, Fernie has an abundance of Parks and Trails, with views of rugged peaks, rushing waters, and breathtaking natural areas.

Annex Park

Located adjacent to the Elk River, Annex Park is the perfect place to spend an afternoon or a day. A natural area surrounded by two trails, it features a duck pond, grassy open areas and picnic facilities.

Dogwood Park

Located along the Elk River, Dogwood Park encompasses the area from the West Fernie Bridge (Highway 3 crossing) straight through to Coal Creek. Within it there is the City's boat launch (non-motorized boats only), picnic areas, picturesque viewscapes of the Lizard Range, the Leroux Pond (home to ducks, turtles, frogs and more) and is part of the Fernie Recreational Trail Network.

James White Park

Our largest park, James White Park (formerly known as Mountview Park) has all of the features you would expect from a municipal park - large open areas, ballfields, tennis courts, horseshoe pits, disc golf course - and yet there is still space to find peace and solitude.

Rotary Park

Located adjacent to Highway 3, this park has picture-perfect views of the main peaks around Fernie and is also host to our premier playground. Rotary Park has also been home to weddings, community events and during the summer you will find the Mountain Market here on Sundays.

Community Trails

More than 20 kilometers of multi use community trails are easily accessed from all areas of the community:

  1. Mountview Loop
  2. Main Town Loop
  3. Great Northern Loop
  4. Other Recreational Trails
  5. Winter Groomed Trail

Winter Trail System

The City of Fernie has great outdoor multi-use trails throughout the community.  Grooming of the trails take place after an accumulative snowfall of 10 cm.  For a full list of winter trails, please visit Tourism Fernie.

The City of Fernie is in the final stages of securing a winter maintenance contract for the 2023/2024 season.

We encourage you to try these amazing trail systems with your family.
