Mayor's Greeting

Welcome to Fernie!

Fernie nestles snugly among the peaks of Qukin ?amak?is or Raven’s Land, a traditional district of ?amak?is Ktunaxa, the homelands of the Ktunaxa speaking people’s whose territory we gratefully live, work, and play.

Ours is a town renowned for its natural splendor and friendly people. A warm and welcoming city with deep roots in these mountains, including a history traced back to the discovery of coal in the 1890s. I was raised in Fernie and had the true privilege of raising my own children here. The community has evolved greatly over that time, but it has never lost its openheartedness

However you come be here, Fernie has something for everyone: year-round adrenalin sports, great restaurants and shops, world-class flyfishing, trails for quiet strolls or challenging hikes, exceptional local art, a perfectly curated museum, a library with unforgettable books and views, and a walkable, beautifully historic downtown. These are just a few of the things that bring people here to visit and make them want to stay. Whatever your speed, Fernie has something for you.

Visitor or resident, you are an important thread in the fabric of this great community
