The City of Fernie is inviting applications for the regular part time position of Bylaw Enforcement Officer. This is a union position, reporting to the Director of Fire and Emergency Services. This position will provide bylaw enforcement and animal control services to the community. A minimum of 21 hours of work per week will be required and they will generally be between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. but may occasionally include irregular hours (early morning, evening and weekend work) subject to mutual agreement with the Union.
DUITES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensuring compliance with all City Bylaws
- Responding to public inquiries about possible bylaw violations
- Performing field / site inspections with respects to unsightly premises
- Ensure regulations are adhered to such as sprinkling / burning regulations, parking regulations, animal control regulations
- Prepare and issue tickets under MTI
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to deal with confrontations in a professional manner
- Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills
- Well-developed report writing skills
- Sound knowledge of local Government bylaws, and associated Provincial and Federal statuses, including the Local Government Act and Community Charter
- Ability to represent the City at Court hearings
- Ability to deal in a confident and humane manner with domestic animals
The successful candidate must meet the following requirements:
- Must possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver's License
- High School Diploma supplemented with Level One Bylaw Enforcement and Investigating Skills Course or equivalent
- Preferred 3-5 years prior job related experience in a local Government setting and a minimum two years' experience in enforcement work, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
- Must successfully clean and RCMP personal background check
